Embrace your Pearls

Pearls form a huge chapter in gemmology and in the jewellery market. They used to be number one on the list of every woman in the planet, started from Queens in the past and they will continue on being in high demand, probably forever.

Pearls are organic materials created by certain types of shellfish, called molluscs. The most well-known are saltwater oysters and freshwater mussels. Thus, their origin can be either saltwater or freshwater. In addition, pearls can be natural, which mean that they have been formed naturally without any human interference or they can be cultured which means that they have been created in pearl farms with the aid of humans. Moreover, the most wanted pearls used to be the ones with the nacreous layer which present the 'orient of pearl'. This is the reflection effect which is a combination of the reflection of light and a subtle iridescence, both of which are part of pearls' lustre. Just bear in mind, in case you don't know already that pearls can exist without a nacreous layer, such as conch pearls. However, on this post we will have a quick look only on the pearls with a nacreous layer, the most famous ones! I don't want to confuse you with more gemmological terms on this post, thus let's pass to the part that you love the most! Jewellery off course!

A pearl necklace is a piece of jewel, that every woman should have, according to my opinion. It can be worn no matter what your age is, because it always adds an elegance on your outfits. I mean, if you are dressed-up and you have doubts on what jewellery pieces you should combine with, I am telling you, pearls are always the answer. On the photo below, a vintage 1 row pearl necklace with round beaded freshwater cultured pearls is  shown. Look how elegant this looks, even with a white top. Their colours are white with a high lustre and a good surface condition. Be careful, when you buy pearls, they should always be offered with a gemmological certificate. If you want to create a colour difference on your looks, try on darker clothes, such as black, dark brown, dark grey, burgundy and dark pink. But do not be afraid to match them with lighter colours, as I did.

Next on the list comes my wedding suite! I have been asked a couple of times about wedding jewellery. Usually, these pieces are offered as gifts from the parents and family to the bride on that special day. They can be basically anything, that might mean something to you. Some gemstones are characteristic of our birth month. However, a very classical and always in fashion option of wedding jewellery are pearls. Mine are from Tempus. As you see on the photo below, it was a suite (necklace and pair of drop earrings) in 585 platinum metal, featuring an adornment of 3 circles with round colourless cubic zircons and 1 round beaded freshwater cultured pearl on each piece, with white colour and a very good surface condition. This suite was a perfect match with my wedding dress, as it had a romantic, elegant and boho style. It was as shiny as I needed it to be and I am sure I will wear it in the future as well. Generally, we might associate some moments which are important to us with jewellery, which is totally understandable. I do the same too! However, do not keep you beautiful pieces in the box. When you feel that is the right time, just bring them back to light and let them shine!

Last but not least, is another vintage suite (necklace and pair of stud earrings) in platinum metal, but with a different style. I would say a more common style, but still pretty. On this specific suite, the pearl is the major star and it is framed by an adornment of a geometric shape with round colourless cubic zircons. This would be a very nice option for an evening dress or even an evening suit. Personally, I like a lot women's suits, especially coloured ones, such as pink, red, orange. I think that this suite would be an ideal option to match it with, especially now during spring season. I mean, who could deny this combination? Colours and pearls all in one look!

This post was a little longer than usually, but as I have already mentioned pearls are a huge chapter and we would basically need many hours to talk about them. It is never too late to add a suite with pearls on your jewellery collection. Embrace your pearls, wear them on and you will feel special for sure. Even now, that we are all in quarantine, these organic materials, might make you feel better.
